Why Art is Good… Art awakens the imagination and allows the magic in! Art is very important for young children as it develops focus and attention, good hand-eye coordination, and builds self-esteem. More than 33% of children are visual learners and it has been shown that when art is integrated with other curriculum areas, children actually become more engaged in the process. Art, not only teaches children to take risks and to learn from one’s mistakes, but to see that there can be more than one solution to the same problem. It fosters open-ended thinking and creates an environment of questions rather than answers. Art teaches children to learn to explore playfully, without a preconceived plan, learning from accidents and being surprised by the outcome.
At 4Cats Arts Studios, kids get to work in a variety of mediums, taking inspiration from the works of famous artists. If we are studying Picasso, we create acrylic on canvas cubist paintings and ceramics. If we are studying Vincent Van Gogh, we create acrylic on canvas paintings using modeling paste and quick brush strokes, just like Van Gogh did, himself. We also throw in a lot of age-appropriate art history! Trained in Fine Arts, our professional curators are able to tell captivating and inspiring stories in a fun and humorous manner about the life and work of the artist being introduced, creating an environment that encourages the love of learning, creativity, and fun! The name, 4Cats, is inspired by the 4Cats Cafe in Barcelona, Spain. The 4Cats Cafe (Els Quatre Gats) is the place where Picasso went with artist, poet and philosopher friends to discuss art and life and make, and show, great art!
