Camp Tournesol offers French summer camps and overnight programs that enhance the French immersion and Francophone programs in Ontario.
French DAY CAMPS
Preschool: for children age 4 to 6
We offer different programs for 4 to 6 years old to prepare them to enter a french program or to reinforce previously acquired French verbal skills. Supervised by a teacher, our programs help ensure a smooth transition to school, prepare them to enter a French program with confidence and enthusiasm and develop their verbal skills. Vocabulary is reinforced throughout the day with activities such as sports, arts and crafts, nature interpretation, cooperation games and songs. All activities are varied and appropriate to each program/age group. More Info Junior: for children age 7 to 8 The focus of this French Summer Camp program is to promote french conversation outside of an academic environment. These programs are exlusively for children studying in French immersion or francophone schools. The campers are placed in situations where they use their french while doing fun activities. More Info Senior: for children age 9 to 12 We offer different programs for students in this age group: they can register for one or both of our 2 short overnight trips, our out-of-province overnight trip, our french day camps les Intrépides or the Aventuriers. Our popular french day camps for children in FI or francophone school currently will further develop their verbal skills in a fun environment. They will be encouraged to converse and play in French through a variety of fun activities. This program is called Intrépides. We also offer a program for students who will enter an extended French program or students who would like to enrich the learning from the Core French program. This program will reinforce skills acquired in the Core French classes at school in previous years and instil in the campers a love of the language. We also offer several overnight programs. More Info Middle School: for children age 12 to 14 Campers at this age group can choose to participate in our out-of-province overnight trips, our 4 days IER for the grade 7, our leadership week-end as well as our CIT program. All of these programs put a strong emphasis on developing autonomy, self-confidence, leadership skills as well as French verbal skills. Our hope is to help campers see the advantages of being bilingual in Canada and provide them with a opportunities to meet like-minded students from other schools and school boards as well as share their journey in becoming bilingual.
There is VERY LIMITED availability in all these programs and a teacher recommendation is required so register early. Students who attend these programs are given priority to our volunteer positions in grade 9 and paid counselor positions in grade 10 based on their behavior and performance within these programs. Les Intrépides en-route: Grades 3 to 6 (7 for the 4 day trip)
This French camp program is offered to students in French immersion or Francophone schools graduating from grade 3 to 6. It is developed for students who like discovering new places and making new friends. This is a short “away from home” trip to give campers a taste of adventure and independence… all in French. More Info A week-end away in the spring specifically designed to develop leadership skills and to prepare for the CIT program. More Info Each year, Camp Tournesol organizes an out-of-the-ordinary, overnight experience for your child. They are usually trips of about 12 to 13 days or 7 days in the province of Quebec or France. The goal of each of these adventures is to place your child in a situation to use their French and expose them to a French culture in a fun environment. These are not typical group tours but they are developed with the flavour of a family trip. The trips are supervised by experienced teachers and Camp Tournesol counsellors with a maximum of 1 to 7 counsellor to campers ratio. The trips are open to children from the age of 11 to 15 years old. They are built to help your child develop a sense of independence and a sense of confidence in their french language skills.
