Oakville Moms Review:
If you are a mom-to-be or a new mom, this is the book to get: Sprout Right: Nutrition from Tummy to Toddler by Lianne Phillipson-Webb (Registered Nutrition Consultant). This book will give you the right guidance for a healthy nutrition diet from the time that you are pregnant until your baby is eating solids. There are over 75 great recipes for your child, starting off with babies first foods to toddler meals. My first impression of the book was that it is really well organized and easy to understand. I've read a lot books in the past while I was pregnant but none of them were as informative as Sprout Right. I can honestly say she covers every topic imaginable. I love all the side notes and comparison charts that Lianne highlights. Some other topics include: tips for new mom meals, breastfeeding, formula feeding, first foods checklist, baby feeding calendar, helpful tips for teething, eczema and constipation; food allergies, list of resources, food sources of vitamins and minerals, and so much more. Lianne includes her own experiences as a mom as well as other moms. This gives you confidence that you are not alone, we all go through the same problems and concerns. I've tried a handful of the recipes and I love that I can hide some vegetables in my children's meals without them really knowing it. The no-mess fruity pops were so easy to do and a success with my children. Sprout Right would be a great gift for mom-to-be or new mom. Step2® Recalls to Repair Riding Toys Due to Risk of Injury

Hazard: A pin attaching to the yellow knob on the handle of the buggy can loosen, causing the handle to detach from the buggy. This poses a serious risk of injury to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 28 reports of the handle detaching; two incidents required professional medical treatment and 26 resulted in minor scrapes and scratches.

Description: The Step2® Push Around Buggy™ and Whisper Ride Buggy™ are ride-on toys. The buggy comes in various colors; such as, orange, red, blue, pink and green. The buggies have a red “Step2” logo on the handle of the buggy.

Buggies that have a handle attached by a bolt with a plastic white or black head and nut are not included in this recall.

Halton's Health Department first in the region to be Baby Friendly

On Tuesday, May 4, 2010, Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr accepted an official plaque from the Breastfeeding Committee of Canada (BCC), designating the Halton Region Health Department (HRHD) as Baby Friendly—the first health organization in the region and the fourth health unit in Ontario to receive this status.

“As Chair of the Board of Health, I’m proud that the Health Department continues to be leaders in the community promoting better health for all of our residents, including the very youngest,” said Chair Carr. “The Baby Friendly Initiative puts the health of new mothers and babies first by ensuring the education and support they need are in place. We can now help other health organizations in Halton do the same.”

Laura Prodanyk, past chair of the Ontario Breastfeeding Committee (OBC) and representative of the BCC, formally recognized the efforts of the department, “Receiving Baby Friendly status is a significant achievement for any health organization,” she said. “We have been impressed by the Region’s supportive environment and their relationship with other community organizations. Staff knowledge is also excellent, and we saw firsthand how parents in the community actually incorporated what the staff taught them. It’s a great step forward in the protection and promotion of breastfeeding as the norm in Halton.”

The three-day intensive assessment of the department included interviews with 14 staff and 21 moms. The two assessors also attended two prenatal classes and two Halton Prenatal Nutrition Program sessions to assess how well the department is putting their breastfeeding policies and practices into place. They also reviewed websites and curriculum, and as a final step, confirmed their findings with the five other lead assessors for Canada before presenting their report. The HRHD successfully completed the accreditation process on December 17, 2009, meeting a key priority identified by Council for last year.

Why Choose THIS Bootcamp over all the others?If you are looking to tone up and lose weight, you have sooo many options available to you. The idea of a ”bootcamp” is to work with a Personal Trainer at a fraction of the cost, and to have someone to motivate you to meet your goals!I have instructed for a couple of the high profile Bootcamp companies. I found many of them put too many into a class.I am a Personal Trainer. My passion is to get to know my clients strengths and weaknesses and help them achieve their goals. When I was handed a class of 25 I rarely had the opportunity to get to know the names of my participants let alone get to know their individual goals.That was when I decided to start my own Bootcamp. A bootcamp that could deliver tougher and more advanced drills because the Trainer has 12 or less in a class.

So…… Motivation Fitness offers you:
Lower class numbers for more individual attention
More advanced drills delivered in a safer environment
More attention to your needs and goals
Certified Insured Fitness Professionals
the same (or less) than you would pay elsewhere

What Programs are offered?
Bootcamp
The class is one hour long and you attend twice per week. The structure incorporates dynamic conditioning (plyometrics, cardio, agility drills etc) and resistance in the form of squats, lunges, pushups. We try to make it as fun as possible using drills and obstacle courses. Part of the motivation is from your Trainer and the other part is from your peers.

Stroller Fit
This program is structured to give parents a good workout with a baby and stroller in tow! We take the bootcamp elements and format them into a stroller friendly program. So instead of drills we use the paths and sidewalks to get our workout. We keep the class moving as much as possible so that by the end of the hour the baby thinks he or she just enjoyed an hour long walk in the fresh air. Of course we recite some nursery rhymes and children’s songs during the workout too to help keep the little ones enjoying every minute.

Bridal Bootcamp/Private Bootcamp
We also offer private programs for those with upcoming events such as weddings, proms, reunions or just for groups of friends that want to get in shape together. There is nothing better than having the support of family and friends while getting healthy and fit side by side!

Oakville Moms Review:
I feel that the sisters from Spa Sisters spoiled me when they sent their products for me to try out. It felt like the Spa came to my home! Each of their products are beautifully packaged and presented. Having learned so much the last couple of years from being a mom, I am so aware of product ingredients, especially when it comes to products for my children. I am all for eco-friendly and green products and this is something that the Spa Sisters deliver.

I am now addicted to the pomegranate berry body meringue. I absolutely love the scent and feel of this body meringue. It is so smooth and easily absorbs well. Whether you have dry skin or not, you can't go wrong with the body meringue.

The organic shea butter is a great product if you or your child suffer from eczema, minor irritations and dry skin. It is a rich moisturizer containing pure jojoba oil and vitamin e. I use this for my knees and elbows.

The bum balm is a must have for your babies bottom. This product has 100% natural ingredients and contains no zinc.It's gentle and effective in relieving your babies bum rashes. Spa Sisters also make their own artisan soap by hand.

I had a chance to try out the rosemary mint artisan soap. I love the scent and it is more refreshing than the common soap.

My kids had a great time making bubbles with the mandarin bubble bath. It has a yummy scent and it's biodegradable. This product doesn't have any SLS, SLES, synthetic fragrances or artificial colours. It is a great option to consider if your little one has sensitive skin.

Chi-do Yogalates
An energizing workout for the mind, body and spirit through a combination of ancient Tibetan CHI-DO, YOGA, PILATES and MEDITATION.Chi-do Yogalates is a low-impact workout perfect for both beginner and avid athletes of all ages. There are group and private classes available.

The program consists of 7 classes that are 75 min in length. Each class consists of the following four components;

1. CHI-DO is a Tibetan form of Tai-chi practiced for hundreds of years that enhances the body’s ability to develop and store Chi (life force). Combining breath with graceful movements you will build your Chi so that it can be focused throughout the session.
2. In YOGA this life force is called prana and is moved through the body using breath and asana’s (postures), helping to relieve tension while improving your flexibility.
3. PILATES is a form of exercise that is here used to concentrate the energy created and moved in the body during Chi-do and Yoga. Specific muscle groups are targeted to tone and strengthen the physical body.
4. In the final part of the class you are lead through a MEDITATION. By quieting the mind and focusing your thoughts you will experience greater clarity in all aspects of your life.

When was the last time you've had some "ME" time? Are you always busy with your child(ren) and no time to fix your hair? Then Blo is your destination and you only need 30 min to spare. Blo is a Blow Dry Bar which is first to market no cuts, no colour concept in North America. Select from 7 hot styles, the cost is about $30 and 30 min later you are out with a sexy hairstyle. I was so excited to check out Oakville's Blo Blow Dry Bar and I was impressed with the stylish set-up. Great decor! I was offered a drink (choice of bottled water or vitamin water), and they have a friendly staff. My hair was washed and then I selected the "HollyWould" style. I had plans that day to go out with my husband and I couldn't wait to see how it turned out. They only used a dryer and a round brush to style my hair. Blo stylist was so great and before I knew it I was ready to leave Blo. My hair looked amazing and so curly. It was truly a different experience for me and I was very happy with the end result. If you need some "ME" time or need to have your hair done before an outing, Blo Blow Dry Bar is an option for you. Can't wait to go there again!
